A Little Bit About Me and LingoSpring:

When I was 19 I went to Italy as a missionary. I spent two years there and learned the language quickly and well. When I came home to the U.S. my parents had moved to Beijing, where they lived for the next four years while I attended university in the U.S. I took a few semesters of Chinese in college and spent some time in China with my family during summers, holidays, and semesters off.

After a few years, I became a “proficient beginner” in Chinese –being able to reliably recognize about 1000 characters and going through about 4 college semesters of material. I stopped there, to focus on working my way through college and finishing my degree.

I could blame other priorities, but I think the major reason I lost momentum was that after about 1000 characters, a lot of the characters started looking the same. I was having to put in more time per character and it was getting frustrating.

In 2010 I decided to pick Chinese back up and see if I could make some good progress toward proficiency.

LingoSpring, with it’s TrevorsChineseReader and Trevor’s Chinese Memory Game for the iPhone and iPod is the result of that study.
